ABM-anniversary-logo

As-Built Management is very proud to announce that April 2019 marks our 15th year in business!

What began as a local one-man engineering operation in a small office in Frankfort, IL has grown into a diverse team of employees serving engineering consulting clients all across the United States. None of the success of ABM would be possible without the commitment of our clients and for that, we deliver a heartfelt thank you!

To mark our 15 years, we thought it might be good to provide some historical perspective and take a look back at what was happening in the year of our founding in 2004. We hope you enjoy!

Breaking a curse

In October 2004 the Boston Red Sox broke the “Curse of the Bambino” by winning their first World Series since 1918. Their first world championship in 86 years many believed it was the Red Sox’s trade of Babe Ruth to the New York Yankees in 1920 that began the Curse.

Facebook launches

Social network Facebook was launched to students from Harvard University in February of 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg along with his college roommates and fellow students Eduardo Saverin, Dustin Moskovitz and Chris Hughes. Zuckerberg later expanded the network first to other colleges in the Boston area and then other Ivy League Colleges.

Armstrong breaks record

Now disgraced cyclist Lance Armstrong won his record-breaking sixth Tour de France in July of 2004. Armstrong was later stripped of his titles after it was discovered he had used banned performance-enhancing substances in many of his winning races.

Tsunami Devastates Southeast Asia

The strongest earthquake in 40 years located in the Indian Ocean near Indonesia, caused tsunami waves that swept across the coastlines of Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, the Maldives, Burma, Thailand, Malaysia and Indonesia. The Tsunami and its after-effects are estimated to have killed about 290,000.

Big at the box office

Some of the biggest movies of 2004 included: Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Spider-Man 2, The Incredibles, Ocean’s Twelve, Million Dollar Baby, Ray, The Aviator and Sideways. The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King won the Academy Award for Best Picture.

Bush wins a second term

George W. Bush won his second term in office in November 2004, defeating Senator John Kerry. Kerry would later go on to serve as the Secretary of State under President Barack Obama.
